I do not know where he warmed up the hot water, it was probably in a thermos, in any case I would do just that, I would use hot water from a thermos for noodles and for tea. I remember as before, on the hike I drank tea and thermos lids on the river bank. it was a cool time, and I liked to eat pasta dry, they crunched like chips. ^^
